Meteorological
Observer - Guernsey Airport (36 hours per week - shift work)

The Public Services Department of
the States of Guernsey has a vacancy for a Meteorological Observer to work in
the Met Office at Guernsey Airport. Applicants for the post must be at least 18
years of age and have studied to an appropriate educational standard. A proven
ability in a maths or physical science related field, good IT skills and a
strong interest in local weather are essential. The successful applicant will provide a meteorological recording service to the aviation and local community and will maintain the Bailiwick weather record. Suitable applicants must be able to work under pressure for long periods, be self motivated and capable of maintaining a high degree of accuracy and timeliness with minimal supervision and willing to work within a Quality Management System (ISO 9001). Applicants must be prepared to work outside in all weathers and will be expected to operate as a lone worker with some additional airfield responsibilities at times when the airport is closed. Following training, applicants will be expected to be able to be responsible for the routine operation of specialist computer systems and meteorological recording instruments. The successful candidate will be required to work on a shift rota, which includes overnight, weekend and public holiday shifts. The Met Office operates 24 hours per day and on every day of the year. Candidates must be willing to attend off island training courses and will be required to complete a six month in house training programme before assuming full shift responsibility. Due to the nature of this post, and if your application is successful, you will be required to undergo a Standard Police Check. As an employee in an Airport environment you will also require an Airside Security Pass for which further checks will be made. |
